The Encyclopaedia Britannica has begun to refer to Hong Kong as Xianggang, the Modern Standard Mandarin (MSM) pronunciation of the name.
Strange that a British publication would adopt the Mandarin pronunciation and spelling of a city. Perhaps a few more Hong Kongers will pine for independence/neocolonialism to get away from China.
Most people do not expect Hong Kong to be a problem for China, but it could become a PR nightmare if social mood collapses.
